Classes for CLUB racing next year

Postby jovian » Thu Jul 15, 2010 7:09 pm

Hello all,

Below are the proposed classes/formula's for 2011 Southern Downs and club racing. Please keep in mind these are classes for CLUB racing and are aimed at maxmising grids and races per class per meeting. You will not go directely from a podium in a Southern Downs round to a WSBK or MotoGp Factory Team :)

Formula 1- 1000cc/4 & 600cc/4 built from Jan 2004 to present - open tyre
Bears 1000cc and over Jan 2004 to present
250GP

Formula 2 - Pre- modern including bikes built up to December 31, 2003.
New Era over 550cc
Naked Bikes
Bears under 999cc

Formula 3 - Clubsport Lites
125gp
400cc
Twins up 650cc
Supermono

Formula 4 - Historic up to 550cc
Formula QEMSC

Formula 5 - P platers

Formula 6 - Supermoto

Formula 7 - Combined Juniors

Formula 8 - Sidecars

This is up to discussion of members and if anyone has ideas feel free to let us know. Formulas may be combined in races where classes do not fill the grid.

Not quite clear where over 550cc historic bikes fit - eg, P5 1983 GSX1100, and P4 CB750

Formula QEMSC - guessing is as defined in the Suppregs for the Big Chill meeting - is exactly the same as Formula 3?
Would it not be better to move clubsports into formula 4 - currently we race with the historics and it works pretty well.

I'll let people who ride large CC bikes comment on F1 and F2.
I guess the big issue will be the cut off date. Is it too early or too late?

Good suggestion Simon.

The other option is what they do in Victoria which allows more cross entering in different classes/more races per person. I am not sure of the specifics of each class but here is a run down

Formula 400/twinsprint/Clubsport & 250 proddy
Superstock 600/1000
Supersport
Superbike
Juniors
Open over 500cc
125cc/250gp
Motard
Sidecar
Juniors
Thunderbikes/Pre modern F1/F2

We could trim this down to suit our club but basically this would mean everyone would be eligable for 2 classes

you can have a look here to get an idea about bikes that run in each class http://www.computime.com.au/ and look at Victorian Road Race Titles @ Phillip Island

As a new racer, first meeting on 7/8 August in P Plater class and a '98 ZX9R rider, I think the current classes are fine, but there needs to be additional classes for those on older sports bikes that don't fit New Era and wouldn't be competitive in Formula 1 or 2.

Additional classes:
New Era (Formula 6)
- New Era 2: Jan '96 to Dec '00, split into up to 600cc and over 600cc
- New Era 3: Jan '01 to Dec '05, split into up to 600c and over 600cc (maybe limit to C & D grade riders only??)
I even went to the effort of drawing up some rules for these classes a while ago, based upon model year not year manufactured if anybody is interested.

Formula 400
- Twins up to 650cc (although is there many of these bikes?)

Just my opinion as a slow rider on an older bike ;)

I agree with the New Era idea that has been raised...but maybe a New Era 1 class as well, which will essentially be the same as the newly proposed Period 6 class.
I have a 1991 Honda RS125 and this is never going to be competitive in the 125GP class...I am sure there are others that probably have older bikes like these that are tucked up at home waiting for a run.

I also like the current classes, and wish this to be a way to simply get more bikes out there.
We could run NE1, NE2 etc - however if there are not 8-10 of a class it's hardly worth it.
I feel the above changes are more about how to group bikes on track - for safety and even size grids. Classes can be pointed separate if they have the numbers.

So running something like the below would it encourage more people to come out and race 600cc+ size bikes from 95 onward and what date would work best as the cut off between F1 and F2?

Formula 1- 1000cc/4 & 600cc/4 built from Jan 2004 to present - open tyre
Bears 1000cc and over Jan 2004 to present
250GP
Formula 2 - Pre- modern including bikes built up to December 31, 2003.
New Era over 550cc
Naked Bikes (over 500cc)
Bears under 999cc
Formula 3 - 125gp
400cc
Twins up 650cc
Supermono
Formula 4 - Historic up to 550cc
Clubsport lites
Motolites/Superlites
Formula 5 - P platers
Formula 6 - Supermoto
Formula 7 - Combined Juniors
Formula 8 - Sidecars

!

Build it and they will come.
Maybe even in addition to the New Era over 550cc that we have a New Era under 550cc....
Your never going to get 8-10 if they cant currently run with us.
New Era is most highest subscibed class in NSW through the PCRA...dont know why we wouldnt get onboard.
It isnt just me that has bikes sitting in the garage. I am sure there are plenty of others.

I would prefer to run a 600 in this type of class. An 04 built bike just doesn't cut it racing against 09 and 10 models.
